Pewter candlesticks and candle holders from then until now

Svenskt Tenn's Pewter candlesticks and candle holders are an important part of the range. Pewter is a classic material, and the candle holders are available in many different shapes and sizes, beautiful to adorn the dinner table with.

Among Svenskt Tenn's selection of pewter candlesticks and candle holders are classic designs from as early as the 1920s, including the pewter candlesticks created by the artist and sculptor Edvin Öhrström, inspired by Egyptian mythology. The shape was originally thought to be a hand mirror, but Svenskt Tenn's founder Estrid Ericson saw something different in it and turned it into a graceful candlestick in pewter.

The range also includes a number of pewter candlesticks and candle holders from the 1930s and 1950s, as well as contemporary designs like the candle holders Gren by Jakob Solgren, the Flow candle holder by Sissi Westerberg and the pewter candle holder Silhouette by Nina Jobs and Stina Sandwall.

Let your pewter candle holder age beautifully

Pewter is an elegant material used for many beautiful candlesticks and candle holders, but it is important to remember that the material is also soft and delicate. For example, pewter has a lower melting point than other metals, so you should never let a candle burn down completely in a pewter candlestick. The candle should be put out when it is about 4-5 cm left of it, to prevent the pewter from melting and changing form. Pewter candlesticks and other pewter objects placed in south facing windows in the summer, can in the worst case, because of the heat, become so hot that the pewter changes shape.

If you want to clean your pewter candle holder, avoid polishing, as the material can be scratched. Instead, rinse the pewter in tepid water, possibly with a drop of detergent, to dissolve fat such as fingerprints. Then wipe dry with a soft cloth.

If you are going to store your pewter candlesticks for a while, they should always be packed upright. The softness of the material can otherwise result in the candlestick being oblique.
