Beckmans scholar 2024

EXHIBITION AT STRANDVÄGEN 5
2024.10.03 – 2024.10.13

Svenskt Tenn’s Design Award is awarded annually To one of the graduating students from Beckmans College of Design’s Product Design Program, whose work fulfills the criteria of Sustainability, Quality, and Good Design.

This year’s scholarship recipient, Svea Tisell, has used a visionary, three-dimensional weaving technique and a 2.5 km-long rope to create a chair that demonstrates alternative ways of making furniture beyond the classical methods. This is the first time the technique is being used to create a design object, and also the first time it is applied on such a large scale. The technique challenges traditional manufacturing methods for upholstered furniture and creates a new type of comfort that adapts to the human form and patterns of behaviour.

The armchair is made from a 2.5 km long cord.
