Bookend Lion
Pewter Lion by Anna Petrus
Anna Petrus’ lion is an iconic pewter object that has been a part of Svenskt Tenn’s range since 1927. The lion is a true work of art: elaborately detailed and timeless in its design, created with inspiration from the Far East.
The lion — Anna Petrus’ signature motif
A couple of years before Svenskt Tenn was founded, during the exhibition at Liljevalchs Gallery in Stockholm 1922, artist Anna Petrus had shown a gilded mirror featuring a majestic lion inspired by ancient Carthaginian art.
The Angel Mark on Pewter Objects
Svenskt Tenn’s own pewter objects are always stamped with Änglamärket (The Angel Mark), which has evolved into a recognisable hallmark of quality.
How the Lion is made
Anna Petrus’ classic pewter lion is manufactured at Humstorp Metall in Västergötland, Sweden. The workshop was founded in 2011 by Oskar Hammar, who took over a part of the production from his parents' company 'Skaraborgs Hantverk,' founded in 1978.
Anna Petrus
Anna Petrus was a prominent designer, sculptor, and artist who early on was commissioned by Estrid Ericson to design objects for Svenskt Tenn. With her distinctive style and outstanding craftsmanship, Petrus highlighted the advantages of pewter in the 1920s.
