Greetings from Margherita
EXHIBITED AT STRANDVÄGEN 5
2023.05.31 – 2023.08.27
La bella vita (the beautiful life) goes to Sweden – a colourful party where Italian craftsmanship meets Svenskt Tenn’s classic designs. This summer’s exhibition at Svenskt Tenn is a picnic of colours and patterns – a postcard from Italy, signed by Margherita Maccapani Missoni.
“The Greetings from Margherita exhibition and collection reflect my personal interpretation of what is 'typically Italian'. It is my postcard from Italy, and a playful wink at Italian stereotypes,” says Margherita Maccapani Missoni.
Picknick à la Margherita Missoni
The picnic demonstrates what Margherita herself describes as “the light-hearted and relaxed Italian approach to life.” In the exhibition she lets her creativity flow, without following rules and norms.
“I love making picnics an event and like to go all out. Low tables, a sea of cushions and throws, well-stocked baskets and colourful table settings are the key to creating an inviting environment. For me, who loves setting the table but doesn’t like to cook, this is a perfect way to socialise,” says Margherita.
Margherita Maccapani Missoni“I am inspired by and feel a kind of kinship with Svenskt Tenn’s founder Estrid Ericson, a woman who was ahead of her time. She was truly avant-garde – an entrepreneur who maintained great sensitivity while insistent on doing things her own way.”
Margherita Maccapani Missoni is the granddaughter of Ottavio and Rosita Missoni, who in 1953 founded the company that became world famous for its iconic, colourful zigzag patterns. Margherita herself worked as a designer at the company and is well known for the several projects that reflect her personal and eclectic style - spanning from acting to interior design.
A small range of special edition Svenskt Tenn products, designed by Margherita Maccapani Missoni, are launched in cojunction to the exhibition, including heart-shaped featuring Josef Frank’s patterns Mirakel, Barranquilla, and Dixieland, two smaller trays based on the idea of a postcard, as well as a plate and assiette produced exclusively for Svenskt Tenn in Italy.
Margherita Maccapani Missoni“I generally have a playful attitude towards interior design, and I like to go with my gut feeling. It comes naturally for me to mix the sophisticated with eclectic, flea market finds with design objects, and different colours and patterns. It’s an approach that fits well with Svenskt Tenn’s philosophy.”
