About Svenskt Tenn
Since 1975, Svenskt Tenn has been owned by the Kjell and Märta Beijer foundation, which supports scientific research and education, Swedish interior decorating, architecture and design, and promotes various cultural projects.
The fact that Svenskt Tenn is owned by a foundation is unusual for a company in the interior design industry. It means that the company has the opportunity to operate in the long-term and has declared an ambition to live forever.
Through the Kjell and Märta Beijer foundation, the surplus generated by the business is used for scientific research and education in areas such as genetic and neuroscience research and pharmaceutical research at Uppsala University, livestock research at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and ecological sustainability research at the Beijer Institute at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Together with Uppsala University, the foundation also funds a professorship in Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is held by Professor Thomas Schön. The foundation has also appointed and is financing a two-year Artist in Residence position, held by the composor Jacob Mühlrad in 2021-2022.
In 2019-2020, Svenskt Tenn contributed SEK 65.5 million to scientific research and the promotion of Swedish craftsmanship and culture.
